Gaming and technology volunteer, Child Life Services
Boston Children’s Hospital main campus
Duties
- Play video games with patients at the bedside, playroom, or resource room, independently or alongside Patient Technology Specialists, mainly utilizing the Nintendo Switch but could also include the following systems: PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series S, Wii U and Wii, VR headsets, and iPads
- Communicate with Patient Technology Specialists on all gaming sessions with patients
- Perform troubleshooting for such technology as problems arise
- Maintain equipment records and implement other anti-theft procedures to ensure equipment security
- Ensure patient files are removed from all technology in accordance with HIPAA
- Perform other technology-related tasks as needed
Requirements
- At least 18 years old and graduated from high school
- Have a working knowledge of a wide array of video game consoles including PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo
- Ability to navigate the hospital in its entirety
- Engage in gaming sessions with patient census with minimal supervision
- Be proficient in Microsoft Excel (or a comparable office suite such as OpenOffice)

- Available to start in May or June 2025 and continue for the year commitment
Current volunteer needs
- Wednesday: Four-hour time frame between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- Thursday: Four-hour time frame between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Please note: This timeframe needs to be consistent throughout the year. We will not be able to change your schedule to a different day or time, due to the specific need in this area.
Minimum commitment
- One set four-hour shift per week for one calendar year

Early Intervention Program volunteer, Martha Eliot Health Center
This opportunity is available to volunteers at the Martha Eliot Health Center located at 75 Bickford St., Jamaica Plain. Our patient population is infants and toddlers with developmental delays/complex medical conditions.
Duties
- Assisting with office support for various projects
- Assisting with the program’s play groups in the outpatient clinic
Requirements
- At least 18 years old and graduated from high school
- If applying, must fully complete application and submit reference sheet
- Available to attend a Zoom interview
- Available to start in May 2025 and continue for six consecutive months
Note: Applicants should have experience working with children ages 0-3. Experience working in special education and/or with children with developmental delays is preferred.
Minimum commitment
- Two two- to three-hour shifts per week for six months
- Shifts are scheduled on Tuesdays between 8:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. and Thursdays between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
- Interested applicants should be available to come in twice per week during the given timeframes.

- Create a welcoming atmosphere at the main entrance of the hospital
- Provide wayfinding assistance to patients and families throughout the hospital
- Deliver items to patients and families throughout the hospital

Music volunteer
Boston Children’s Hospital main campus
Duties
- Assisting in group/individual sessions under music therapist’s supervision
- Passing out musical instruments and lyric sheets
- Playing and singing along when appropriate
- Helping with cleanup and sanitization
- Assisting with uploading music on Yoto player
- Assisting supervisors with any other needs, such as programming or program preparation
Requirements
- At least 18 years old and graduated from high school
- If applying, must fully complete application and submit reference sheet
- Must be able to pass a music proficiency screening via Zoom, which includes instrumental performance and/or singing
- Available to attend a Zoom interview
- Available to start in late May/June and continue for the one-year commitment
Current volunteer needs
- Fridays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (ability to keep this schedule throughout the year)
