Connecting and supporting diverse business owners

Boston Children’s supports the growth of our local economy by doing business with minority-, women-, and veteran-owned businesses in our community.

The hospital works with diverse vendors to strengthen their capability and capacity to conduct business. Supplier Diversity Days bring together minority-, veteran-, and/or women-owned vendors with purchasers across various departments. These networking events allow hospital employees to learn more about the many options for goods and services. The hospital also provides education and resources to help businesses in our local community to get certified as a MWBE (minority-/women-owned business enterprise).

Boston Children’s collaborates with peer hospitals in Massachusetts and other pediatric health care institutions across the United States to share best practices and information on working with diverse suppliers.

The hospital also has memberships with both Premier and Yankee Alliance group purchasing organizations. These partners are integral in aiding the Boston Children’s Supply Chain team in implementing responsible supplier sourcing and procurement strategies.

The Boston Children’s Supplier Diversity Manager collaborates with Supply Chain and other departments to offer guidance and recommendations on identifying and working with diverse local and regional suppliers.

Examples of recent partnerships are below:

  • Boston Children’s is collaborating with Medzah, a minority-owned company, to supply biodegradable gloves throughout the hospital.
  • Boston Children’s collaborated with Premier Inc. to create Kiindo™, a pediatric-focused program to help improve costs, quality, and outcomes for all children’s hospitals under Premier’s membership.
  • Dorchester Food Co-op is an approved vendor for the hospital; this minority- and worker-owned food cooperative provides catering for meetings and events.
