‘What I want you to know about endometriosis’: Iva’s story
At 27, Iva's been followed by the Division of Gynecology since she was 15, and she wants to help parents and young patients learn more about the condition.
The Division of Gynecology at Boston Children’s Hospital is one of the premier pediatric and adolescent gynecology centers in the world. We specialize in gynecologic care for patients from infancy to young adulthood, from addressing common concerns such as missed periods, heavy bleeding, pelvic pain, and endometriosis, to managing more complex conditions like congenital anomalies of the reproductive tract. We also provide fetal consultations to expecting families to help ensure exceptional care for suspected congenital anomalies.
Our chief of gynecology, Marc R. Laufer, MD, is also the founder and director of the Boston Center for Endometriosis, the largest endometriosis program in the nation, and co-director of the Center for Young Women’s Health, which helps young teens and their parents learn more about sexual and reproductive health and get timely access to resources and support.
The division is known nationally as a leader in treating Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome and provides a multispecialty team to supply sensitive and age-appropriate counseling and treatment options. Through the Center for Young Women’s Health, we facilitate monthly online chats on MRKH. We also run an annual conference for MRKH patients and families.
In addition, we work closely with the Fertility Preservation Program at Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center to give young patients with cancer a chance to have their own families in the future.
We deliver world-class care with a compassionate approach, using simple, easy-to-understand language to make sure that every child or young adult will feel at ease throughout their health journey.
Our clinicians recognize that children and adolescents are constantly growing and developing — and have different emotional and physical needs at different stages of growth. We’re trained to meet those needs by using the proper tools and diagnostic procedures best suited to your child’s age and comfort level.
