The lactation consultants in the Lactation Support Program are highly trained and experienced nurses who work with families and infants who have breastfeeding difficulties. All program staff are international board-certified lactation consultants (IBCLC), which is the gold standard in lactation certification. Below is a list of some of the areas that we specialize in treating:
- Clinical breastfeeding/chest-feeding evaluation and assessment
- Feeding difficulties: inability to latch at the breast
- Suckling difficulties, oral aversion, hypersensitive gag reflex at breast
- Separation of lactating parent from infant
- Establishing milk supply using a breast pump
- Complications of lactation: engorgement, mastitis, low milk supply
We address breastfeeding/chest-feeding issues in infants who have:
- Prematurity
- Respiratory complications
- Congenital heart disease
- Gastrointestinal conditions
- Growth Issues and failure to thrive
- Newborn complications such as hyperbilirubinemia, fever/infections, and hypoglycemia
- Other congenital anomalies that affect feeding and swallowing
