What is a conditioned play audiometry test?

If you suspect your child has hearing loss, your physician might perform a conditioned play audiometry test. This test is ideal for children between 2 and 5 years old. Audiometric tests measure your child's ability to discriminate between different sound intensities, recognize pitch, or distinguish speech from background noise. Your child will be shown how to perform a repetitive play task, such as placing a peg in a pegboard, each time she hears a sound. This test is conducted in a sound-treated room.
