Experts in foot and ankle health
Feet are the foundation of the body. Athletes use them to run, jump, leap, kick, and spin. Foot issues, such as injury or conditions present at birth, can lead to leg pain, back pain, and injury.
The Pediatric Podiatry Program at Boston Children’s Hospital specializes in treating children, teens, and young adults with foot or ankle issues. We work with our colleagues in Boston Children’s Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Department to provide holistic care for patients with conditions such as:
- Bunions
- Congenital curly toe
- Flexible flatfoot
- Ingrown toenails
- Plantar fasciitis
- Sever’s disease
- Shin splints
What is pediatric podiatry?
Podiatrists specialize in issues that affect a child’s feet or lower legs. This includes congenital (present at birth) conditions, sports injuries, pain caused by misalignment of the feet, and foot infections.
Why choose the Pediatric Podiatry Program?
Our priority in the Pediatric Podiatry Program is helping our patients return to activity as soon as they can do so safely. While we have access to some of the best pediatric orthopedic surgeons in the world, we start with conservative treatments, such as orthotics and physical therapy, whenever possible.
If your child has a sports injury, we first work to identify the root cause — which could be misalignment or poorly fitting shoes. For instance, in partnership with the injury prevention specialists at The Micheli Center for Sports Injury Prevention (part of the Sports Medicine Division), we often work with runners and figure skaters to address biomechanical issues (movement patterns) that are putting them at risk of injury.
With our depth of experience and our team approach we can provide your child the care they need to return to activity without further injury.
