Current Environment:

Clinicians in the Center for Healthy Infant Lung Development (CHILD) at Boston Children's Hospital are focused on standardizing the protocol for weaning infants and children off oxygen. As one of the larger program in the country, CHILD sees about 80 new patients each year and there are currently several hundred in their database. By keeping track of patients in this way, researchers are better able to monitor their outcomes and look at predictors of those outcomes.

Gene-chip studies provide a new lead in treating BPD

Isaac KohaneA team led by Isaac Kohane, MD, PhD, director of Boston Children's Informatics Program, and Jennifer Cohen, MD, a neonatology fellow at Boston Children's, published gene expression studies of newborn umbilical cords that show a difference in the chromatin remodeling pathway.
