Current Environment:

How to refer a patient

The members of the Department of Urology at Boston Children's Hospital are available to answer questions.

  • If you have a question about a patient referral, call 617-355-7796 and choose option 1 to speak to one of our clinicians.
  • Choose option 2 to refer a patient or schedule an appointment for your patient.
  • Fax pertinent patient medical records to the Department of Urology, including medical notes and test results. Our fax number is 617-730-0474.
  • Our clinicians take great pride in ensuring seamless communication with you, the referring provider. We do this by providing follow-up clinical notes, and our clinicians are accessible by telephone to answer your questions.

Fellowship training

Established in 1979 by Alan Retik, MD, the Department of Urology continues its mission to provide the best clinical and research training experience in pediatric urology.

We offer a three-year fellowship experience for two fellows per year. The first two years are dedicated to basic science or clinical research. The third year, accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), is devoted to clinical training.

Faculty members are also involved in numerous educational programs, courses, and research projects.

Resident and medical student training

Residents from Boston-area urology training programs rotate through Boston Children's. Third- and fourth-year students at Harvard Medical School, as well as students from across the U.S. and abroad, take part in the hospital's urology elective.
