Exercise programs

Funded by the New Balance Obesity Prevention Foundation, the exercise programs in the Optimal Wellness for Life (OWL) program give children the opportunity to supplement OWL’s multidisciplinary approach in clinic with an ongoing, group-based exercise program in the community. After children have participated in an initial OWL appointment with an endocrinologist, dietitian, and behavioral psychologist, the OWL team can determine a child’s eligibility and connect children to one of OWL’s exercise programs based on their eligibility.

OWL on the Water

OWL on the Water helps kids find a love of exercise through sports

OWL on the Water (OOTW) is a unique rowing-based exercise program designed to help kids discover their inner athlete in a supportive team environment. The main goals of OOTW are to foster an enjoyment of exercise while improving fitness and health.

Who can participate?

The program is open to 12- to 18-year-olds who are participating in the OWL program or other affiliated programs at Boston Children’s Hospital. To remain eligible, all participants must be actively participating in the OWL program or another multidisciplinary program at Boston Children’s Hospital.
