You’re not alone

Many kids say school is one of the top reasons they are stressed. Kids get stressed out by different things. You may feel upset about something that doesn’t bother your friend.

If homework is getting to you:

  • Break a large task into small, manageable steps.
  • Plan ahead. Make out a schedule for the week with a plan for when you’ll do your homework. Ask an adult to help you.
  • Balance work and fun. Plan time for not only homework but also playing games or sports, hobbies, and other fun activities.

If you are stressed about grades:

  • Learn to feel good about your best effort, or doing well enough sometimes.
  • Realize nobody is perfect. You don’t have to get all A’s.
  • Ask your teacher or another trusted adult for extra help.

If some kids are being mean to you:

  • Get help from a trusted adult. It’s hard to handle mean kids alone.
  • It’s usually not helpful to pretend mean kids don’t bother you or to make plans to get back at them.

  • Make a plan and practice what to do in stressful situations.
  • Take a break. Activities like listening to music, talking with a friend, drawing, writing, or spending time with a pet can reduce stress.
