Rachael Flatt | Professional History
Dr. Flatt is an Attending Psychologist with the Division of Sports Medicine and the Division of Psychology at Boston Children's Hospital and serves as a team member with the Female Athlete Program. Her career is devoted to the integration of clinical care, research, and advocacy efforts to improve the landscape of mental health in sport.
In her clinical care, she specializes in treating athletes with eating disorders, body image concerns, Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs), and associated concerns including anxiety and mood disorders. Through working with athletes, their families, and their partners across the spectrum of mental performance to mental health concerns, she provides evidence-based care using primarily CBT, DBT, and ACT modalities. Her research similarly focuses on eating disorders, particularly in athlete populations, and how to leverage digital mental health tools to improve treatment outcomes and increase access to care.
As an Olympian and National Champion in figure skating, she holds a firsthand perspective on the unique experiences of athletes, which fuels her passion to address the needs of the sports community through advocacy and leadership positions. She has served as a representative for the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee's Mental Health Task Force, U.S. Figure Skating's Board of Directors, and the U.S. Council for Athletes' Health Advisory Panel, among other roles.
