Medication infusions and transfusions

Your medical team may have determined that an infusion or transfusion is going to be a part of your treatment plan.

Expect to receive a call from our scheduling team to start the process of booking your infusion or transfusion appointments. Most treatments can be completed in either our Boston or Waltham locations, with a few exceptions. Let our team know if you have a location preference for your treatment.

If this is your first infusion with us, or you are receiving a new medication, an NP will assess you at the start of your visit. If you have questions about whether you should receive treatment due to illness or otherwise, please contact us before your appointment.

If your child is feeling sick on the day of their scheduled infusion, please call the program directly to discuss with the care team prior to your appointment time. The team will determine if rescheduling the appointment to a different day is necessary.

Food challenges

Your allergy team may have determined that you are eligible for a food challenge in the Infusion and Day Treatment Program. Expect to receive a call from our scheduling team offering availability, unless your allergist instructs you to reach out to us.

We offer both IgE-mediated food challenges and FPIES food challenges.

Once your food challenge is scheduled, expect to receive a triage call from one of our NPs to give you more information between one and two weeks before your appointment.

Before your appointment, ensure that you follow the instructions provided by the NP. Most importantly, follow the recipe provided to the food that you will be testing; bring the prepared food with you to your appointment; and stop any antihistamines by the designated date if instructed to do so.

Bring your unexpired EpiPens with you to the appointment.

If your child is experiencing an illness prior to, or on the day of, your appointment, please reach out to the program directly, so that we can determine if a reschedule date is necessary.

Diabetes Day Treatment Program

Your endocrinology team may have determined that you are eligible for education regarding your diabetes diagnosis in the outpatient setting.

Expect to receive a call from our scheduling team for an appointment at the Boston location of the Infusion and Day Treatment Program. At 8 a.m. on your scheduled education day, please arrive without having eaten breakfast prior to your appointment.

You will be present for either one or two days of teaching as determined by your endocrinologist. The endocrinologist, diabetic nurse educator, registered dietitian, and social work team will see you while you are here. Plan to eat all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks) with us on your education days. We will practice all skills during your learning sessions to ensure your safety and proficiency prior to discharge.

Neurology Day Treatment Migraine

Our neurology team may determine that outpatient treatment is appropriate for managing your migraine symptoms. They will work closely with you to develop a personalized treatment plan.

If needed, you may be referred to our Infusion Clinic, which offers specialized IV therapy designed to provide fast and effective relief without the need for an emergency room visit.
