David Best | Professional History

Dr. Best was raised in Overland Park, Kansas. He attended Loyola University Chicago, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and competed on the NCAA Division 1 men’s golf team. He completed dental school, medical school, and oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He then completed fellowship training in pediatric cleft and craniomaxillofacial surgery at SUNY Buffalo and the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo, New York. Following his training, Dr. Best worked in private practice in Atlanta, Georgia before moving to Boston to join the Department of Plastic and Oral Surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Best is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ABOMS). He is also a Specialty Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP).

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Best is passionate about education and research. He has published numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts and textbook chapters. For his research in oral lichen planus, he received the Daniel M. Laskin award for the most outstanding manuscript published in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery that year. He regularly lectures nationally and internationally on topics in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

I am committed to caring for children affected by cleft lip and palate in developing countries. I have volunteered with multiple organizations to provide comprehensive surgical care and educate local surgeons in underserved communities.
