Meet Teddy

Teddy trained for 18 months with Dogs for Better Lives before starting to work at Boston Children’s Hospital. He works full time with Erin Connelly, Certified Child Life Specialist, to help patients meet their medical goals. His role is made possible by the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation, for whose support Pawprints and Boston Children’s Hospital are grateful.

Frequently asked questions about our facility dog

A Pawprints facility dog is raised and trained as a working dog. Their specialized and extensive training as hospital workers prepares them to support a broad range of patients and medical scenarios.

A Pawprints facility dog is primarily:

  • A full-time working dog doing a job
  • Handled by a clinician
  • Trained and evaluated based on participation in medical interventions

A Pawprints volunteer therapy dog is primarily:

  • A pet
  • Handled by a volunteer
  • Trained and evaluated based on capacity to share love and comfort

Teddy is a black Labrador retriever.

Teddy was born on April 20, 2024.

Teddy was trained by Dogs for Better Lives. He lived in California and Ohio before moving to Massachusetts (but he has always been a Boston Red Sox fan at heart).

Teddy received 18 months of training before he experienced his first New England winter.

Teddy goes home with Erin to sleep with his toys.

Teddy is a very popular pup! While he does his best to support as many patients as possible, we cannot guarantee Teddy can meet all his referrals. To see if there are medical goals that Erin and Teddy can help you with, you can talk to a member of your Boston Children's care team.
