The Sandra L. Fenwick Institute focuses on improving all children's health outcomes by providing leadership development for current and emerging healthcare and research leaders.

This focus area of the Fenwick Institute is co-led by Howard Brightman, ScD, PE, CSP, CIH, the Fenwick Institute’s Associate Director for Leadership & Continuous Improvement; Melicia Y. Whitley, MM, Senior Director; Stephanie Tuttle, MS, PMP, Project Manager; and Valerie L. Ward, MD, MPH, Senior Vice President and Director of the Sandra L. Fenwick Institute.

The Fenwick Institute Leadership Development Fellows Program

The program’s educational objectives include the development of the essential expertise and experiential learning for excellence in current and future healthcare leaders.

Program description

  • Monthly leadership development seminars and panel discussions led by national and international leadership and healthcare experts. The monthly leadership development seminar and panel curriculum focus areas are:
    1. Leadership effectiveness
    2. Strategy and innovation
    3. Teamwork, collaboration, and psychological safety
    4. Managing oneself as a leader
    5. Continuous learning for leaders
  • Selected program participants conduct a healthcare process improvement project
  • In recognition of standards of educational excellence, the Sandra L. Fenwick Institute Fenwick Institute Leadership Development Fellows Program is designated as a Boston Children’s Hospital Center for Educations Excellence & Innovation Certificate Program.
