Research Overview

Dr. Nelson’s main research interests include the study of asthma in and out of the emergency department. His past research efforts have included the study of emergency treatment of acute asthma, measurement of asthma exacerbation severity, home use of albuterol for exacerbations, and coaching of parents of children with asthma to improve outcomes. His recent efforts have focused on factors associated with severe asthma exacerbations, and the utilization of tests and medications for children with asthma or other respiratory conditions.

About the Researcher

Dr. Nelson completed his medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Pediatrics residency at Children’s National Medical Center / George Washington University School of Medicine; and Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at St. Louis Children’s Hospital/ Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. During his fellowship, he also completed a Masters in Public Health at Saint Louis University School of Public Health. He joined the faculty of the Division of Emergency Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital in 2010.
