Dr. Hughes is a graduate of Boston College and Loyola University-Stritch School of Medicine. She completed otolaryngology training at the University of Connecticut and her pediatric otolaryngology fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Hughes is a member of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology National Surgical Quality Improvement Program and is specifically interested in quality improvement research.  Current and past research endeavors include the creation of an airway grading scale to improve tracheotomy patient care and research examining the appropriateness of tympanostomy tube placement.  She has a specific interest in the management of drooling and is working with the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine on the creation of a sialorrhea care pathway.
