Pulmonary Nursing Services Overview

LIke ThisLIke ThisLIke ThisLIke ThisLIke This

Here at Boston Children’s Hospital, each of our pulmonary nurses has an extensive background in the care of patients with various lung diseases. In addition to the several nurses in the General Pulmonary and Cystic Fibrosis Programs, our team also includes a nurse who coordinates the lung transplant program and several others who primarily coordinate clinical research trials.

Our pulmonary nurse specialists are available in clinic daily to help you with questions regarding a whole range of issues, including but not limited to:

  • medication administration and side effects
  • symptoms that require medical attention
  • inhaler and nebulizer use

Health care questions line (617-355-1900, option #4)

We have a health care questions line available for our patients to leave a message. This line also includes "live sick call" hours between 8:30 AM and 11:00 AM Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).

  • Our nurses prioritize questions according to urgency/severity, and discuss them with either your child’s pulmonologist or the pulmonary team on call.

  • They review messages left on this voicemail service and will get back to you as soon as possible.

  • If your matter requires immediate attention, please contact the Pulmonary Rapid Response beeper (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM) or the on-call pulmonary doctor (after 5:00 PM/holidays/weekends).

When you leave a message, please make sure to leave specific information including:

  • your name
  • your child’s name and medical record number (or date of birth)
  • a detailed and specific message
  • the best number to call you back

Please note that if you have not been seen in 6 months, you may be asked to come in for a clinical appointment before a refill can be made. If your pharmacy has questions about your prescriptions, the pharmacist should be directed to this phone number.

The future of pediatrics will be forged by thinking differently, breaking paradigms and joining together in a shared vision of tackling the toughest challenges before us.”
