Most patients who visit Boston Children’s Motility and Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders Center have complex illnesses and have been referred here by other pediatric gastroenterologists or primary care pediatricians. We review medical records in advance, so an evaluation plan can be formulated before the initial appointment. To properly diagnose and treat the children seen at the clinic, an evaluation plan may involve the following:
- radiology, or x-rays
- endoscopic tests
- specialized motility testing or procedures
Most clinic visits can be coordinated to happen during the same day, but there is always the chance that additional evaluations may be needed, some of which may require a hospital stay.
In addition, depending on your child's condition, he or she may need to see specialists from other programs or centers at Boston Children's including:
