The lab of Dr. Hidde Ploegh has devised an ultra-potent flu treatment that goes deep into tissues and rallies a powerful immune attack on infected cells. It’s made up of nanobodies — derived from alpacas’ unusual antibodies — attached to the common flu drug zanamivir. Dr. Ploegh thinks the technique could be adapted for other infections and also used as a vaccine.
