A partial heart transplant (or human heart valve transplant) replaces a diseased heart valve with a healthy valve from a donor. Boston Children’s Heart specialists believe it is more sustainable than a bioprosthetic transplant or mechanical implant. The valve has the potential to grow along with a patient, and recovery could require a lesser amount of immunosuppressives.
In this webinar, we discuss:
• Why was the partial heart transplant procedure developed and what does it aim to achieve?
• How does Boston Children’s perform a partial heart transplant and what would recovery be like for children?
• How does a patient qualify for the procedure? What would the evaluation, surgical, and recovery processes entail?
