Monogenic diabetes care

Welcome to the Boston Children’s Hospital Diabetes Genetics Clinic. We specialize in the diagnosis and management of genetic forms of diabetes. If your child has a known genetic form of diabetes, we will provide personalized care tailored to their unique situation. If they have a suspected genetic form of diabetes or atypical diabetes, they may be evaluated and undergo genetic testing for further clarity and diagnosis.

We see patients with the following conditions:

  • Maturity onset diabetes of the young (MODY)
  • Mitochondrial diabetes
  • Neonatal diabetes
  • Atypical diabetes who are considering or desiring genetic testing
  • Inconclusive previous genetic testing
  • Lipodystrophy

Individuals with MODY are the most frequent group seen in our clinic. These include individuals with genetic variants in:

  • ABCC8
