Kim Barbas | Professional History

Kimberly Barbas, BSN, RN, IBCLC is the director of the Lactation Support program which she established in 1998 at Boston Children’s Hospital. A lactation consultant and pediatric nurse, Kim has dedicated her expertise to changing the culture around human milk use in the pediatric inpatient setting. She has presented locally and nationally at conferences focusing on breastfeeding the medically complex infant. Kim has been innovative to find solutions for the barriers to breastfeeding that hospitalized families face, leading to early adoption of Bar Code scanning for breastmilk identification, implementation of Mother’s Milk Technicians for breastmilk preparation, and management of Chylothorax with skimmed breastmilk for infants with congenital heart disease.
