Your child is going home with a gastrostomy feeding tube (g-tube). A g-tube is needed to give your child medicine or food when he or she is not able to take enough food by mouth. G-tube feedings can be given by the bolus (all at once) method or by the continuous method. A bolus feeding usually flows in by gravity over a short time (about five to 10 minutes). Sometimes a feeding pump is used to deliver the feeding over 20 to 60 minutes. This information sheet gives you instructions on how to give bolus feedings through a MIC-KEY™ tube.
