Advanced Cardiac Therapies Senior Fellowship

We are pleased to offer a senior clinical fellowship in the Division of Advanced Cardiac Therapies (ACT).

The Division of ACT comprises Boston Children’s programs in cardiomyopathy, heart failure, heart transplant, ventricular assist devices (VADs), and anticoagulation. As part of our service, a fellow will manage patients with cardiomyopathy or who have had heart failure or a transplant. The fellow will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, dieticians, and physicians. The fellow plays a critical role as part of our VAD Program, which uses temporary and durable forms of support in children of all ages and sizes. Fellows will also be mentored in clinical research during the year.

Candidates must have successfully completed a clinical fellowship in pediatric cardiology at an ACGME-accredited institution and be board-eligible in pediatric cardiology at the start of the senior fellowship academic year.

Preference is given to individuals who have an interest in academic medicine and who have demonstrated success in clinical or basic science research.

Goals and objectives for training are:

  • Establish clinical competency in heart failure, VAD, cardiomyopathy, and heart transplantation
  • Complete a research project and publication in the field
  • Develop goals and plan for early career success
  • Develop an understanding of the regulatory requirements and program development issues for education, UNOS, CMS, and protocol development to build a career toward medical director at a UNOS-approved transplant facility.
