Most childhood injuries are preventable. At Boston Children's Hospital, our Trauma Center's Injury Prevention Program is dedicated to dramatically decreasing the number of preventable injuries through research and public education.

What does the Injury Prevention Program do?

We work in the local community, educating clinicians and families and distributing safety materials. Boston Children's administers and supports many community initiatives designed to prevent childhood injury. We’re also conducting research to better understand how to prevent injury.

We work with the Trauma Center to treat and prevent the most common and complex childhood injuries. Our network of pediatric specialists includes some of the world's most experienced pediatric physicians, clinicians, and technicians.

Fitting stations

The Boston Children's Hospital main campus holds a community fitting station on Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon. Appointments are also available at the Peabody campus on Fridays (April-November) from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Please call 617-355-7332 to schedule an appointment at either location.

Here is a list of fitting stations in Massachusetts that may also be able to assist you with your installation.

Safety store

Since 2016, Fundación MAPFRE has provided generous support to Boston Children’s Hospital to advance the work of the Injury Prevention Program. Fundación MAPFRE's commitment has made it possible to expand safety education across Massachusetts, giving families the knowledge and tools to help prevent injuries before they happen.

With MAPFRE’s support, the program uses a dedicated “Safe Play Starts Here” Injury Prevention Van to reach children and families in schools, community centers, and at local events. Injury Prevention specialists lead workshops; track injury trends; present at national conferences; provide car seats, helmets, and home safety related items; and share practical guidance to help families make safe choices every day. Together, Fundación MAPFRE and Boston Children’s are making communities safer and protecting children where they live, learn, and play.
