Infusion and Day Treatment (IDT) Program

About the program

The Infusion and Day Treatment (IDT) Program at Boston Children’s Hospital has two locations, on the main campus in Boston and at Boston Children’s Waltham. The program is a unique ambulatory program for patients and an alternative to inpatient admission for patients requiring infusion therapies and novel medical day treatments. The program offers these patients, who range in age from infancy to adulthood, a place to receive treatment in a family-centered environment that offers consistent and on-going relationships with a healthcare team.

From the first appointment the nurses and child life specialists put us at ease. They explained everything in ways that a 5-year-old could understand, and they were kind and patient-centered. Fast forward 12 years and they have become like family to us.

The Infusion Center has been a bright light in our daughter’s Crohn’s treatment. They are so kind and reassuring. Scheduling is very easy and, every visit is a positive experience. They provide so many comfort items, snacks, games, and really make the experience comfortable for the kids. I am so grateful that our daughter gets her care here.

I have the best routine at the Waltham Infusion center. The snacks are really delicious, the nurses are really nice, and everyone cares that you’re comfortable. My favorite part is when child life comes and I get to pick an activity — my favorite is painting!
