Wonjin Yoon obtained his PhD in computer science from Korea University. During his PhD studies, his research interests focused on investigating the nature of biomedical text and developing methods to enhance systems for BioNLP tasks. His work in this field has spanned a wide range of topics, from language modelling in the biomedical domain (BioBERT) to named entity recognition, relation extraction, and question answering.

During his PhD studies, he had been an external research collaborator of AstraZeneca since 2020, having published academic articles and open-sourced an NER platform for the pharmaceutical industry (entitled as KAZU).
