Dr. Chen joined the Human Neuron Core in the Translational Neuroscience Center (TNC) in April 2016 as the assistant director for Human Neuron Differentiation Services. The mission of the Human Neuron Core is to bridge gaps between clinical and basic science that are needed for drug development. Dr. Chen was recruited to oversee differentiation of stem cell lines into neurons and glia in support of customer projects. The Human Neuron Differentiation Service has established standard operating procedures and quality control measures for the culture of iPSCs and the differentiation of spinal motor neurons, cortical neurons, GABAergic neurons, and sensory neurons from patient iPSC lines.


Pin-Fang (Ivy) Chen is a research scientist specializing in neuronal differentiation and disease modeling using iPSC-derived neurons. Her career goal is to help develop treatments for patients with neurological disorders. She studied Angelman, Prader-Willi, and 15q Duplication syndromes using patient-specific iPSCs and iPSC-derived neurons, and received a Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Science from University of Connecticut Health Center. She also holds a B.A. degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from Wesleyan University.
