Neurodevelopmental Research

Through genetic and neurodevelopmental studies, we have discovered that complex strabismus syndromes can be sensitive indicators of human genetic errors in axon growth and guidance. These include horizontal gaze palsy with progressive scoliosis, Duane syndrome, CFEOM1, and CFEOM3 that result from mutations in ROBO3, CHN1, KIF21A, and TUBB3 respectively. We are now focusing much of our basic neuroscience research on studies of the roles of these proteins in normal and abnormal neurodevelopment.
