Edward Smith Laboratory research projects | Overview

The Smith Lab has a pursued investigation and development of:

  • Non-invasive biomarkers for the detection and follow-up of neurosurgical disease
  • Novel therapeutic interventions for neurosurgical disease based on regulation of vascular stability
  • Investigation of the molecular mechanisms regulating tumorigenesis and angiogenesis in the central nervous system.


Particular focus is centered on:

  • Moyamoya disease
  • Arteriovenous malformations
  • Cavernous malformations
  • Stroke/Cerebral Palsy
  • Brain tumors (including DIPG, GBM, glioma, medulloblastoma, pilocytic astrocytoma and others)
