She received her M.D. at UC Davis where she was valedictorian.  She completed her General Surgical Residency at UCLA in 1995 including 2 years of research in fetal gastrointestinal physiology.  She completed her pediatric surgical fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital as the first female trainee in 1997.

Dr. Buchmiller practiced at UCLA and Weill Cornell Medical College before joining the staff at Boston Children's Hospital in 2004. Her academic efforts have largely focused in the area of fetal/newborn surgical diseases. She provides counseling in the Advanced Fetal Care Center for all pediatric surgical conditions with particular expertise in CDH, the EXIT procedure, gastroschisis and omphalocele, and the management of conjoined twins.

Dr. Terry L. Buchmiller's academic efforts largely focused in the area of fetal/newborn surgical diseases. She provides counseling for all pediatric surgical conditions with particular expertise in CDH, the EXIT procedure, and the management of conjoined twins.

She performs the full spectrum of clinical pediatric surgery, with a particular interest in minimal access surgery, the surgical management of intestinal motility disorders, reconstructive colorectal disease, and fetal surgical diagnoses with an expertise in prenatal counseling.

She is the former Co-Director of the Advanced Fetal Care Center (2009-2013) and the current lead for the General Surgery team. She is the immediate Past Chairman of APSA Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment Committee, and a steering committee member of NAFTNet.  Dr. Buchmiller has been the Surgical Co-Director of Colorectal Program in the Center for Motility and Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders since 2013. She is also an attending surgeon in the Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Clinic.

She is active in the American College of Surgeons as on the Executive Committee of the Board of current Governor, past-President of the MA Chapter, and former national Chair of the Committee on Young Surgeons. Approach to Care
Caring for newborns and children inspires me every day! Like playing the violin, one spends their career mastering the technical steps necessary in surgery to allow a seamless combination that creates that patient’s individual masterpiece. Getting to know my patients and families creates personalized care and allows the best communication possible.
