Professional History

I have benefited from clinical training in the United Kingdom, Australia and Boston in the USA in Pediatric Cardiology and Critical Care Medicine. During this time, I have completed 2 fellowships in Heart Failure, Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support. My clinical practice and research interests are focused around the care of these patients, who often require extended CICU admissions. Boston Children’s Hospital has been internationally renowned for clinical innovation and genuine advancement of the field of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery and I am delighted to be a part of this team.

Approach to Care
I have the most remarkable job in the world and I can honestly say that I know how privileged I am to be in this role. It is a privilege to care for patients before, sometimes during and certainly after their surgery. Families are often well prepared before their admission, with advances in prenatal diagnosis and imaging detail available to have a plan for surgical intervention and appropriate counseling – but someone’s baby (or child/adolescent/partner or parent) undergoing a cardiac intervention is always a big deal.

It is a privilege to work with the extraordinary multi-disciplinary team of specialized nurses, educators, cardiac surgeons, cardiologists and dedicated cardiac intensive care physicians. We share an expectation of excellence in family centered care and a dedication to advancing this rapid-paced field.

It is a privilege to see the tenacity of our patients and the way children of all ages recovery quickly from interventions. We meet the most remarkable families – advocates and participants in their child/family member’s care, and it is a privilege to share this sometimes difficult journey with them.

Many patients who come to Boston Children’s Hospital with congenital cardiac disease for operative intervention spend only a short period in CICU, and need only a glimpse of the care we offer. But for those patients and families who need more intensive care - longer, more complicated admissions for more complicated underlying disease, we have a unique multi-disciplinary team who is ready for the challenge and prepared to share the journey.
