Dr. Joan Hanania is an attending child and pediatric psychologist at Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center and an Instructor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Hanania completed her pre-doctoral internship at Boston Children’s Hospital, and her post-doctoral fellowship at Dana-Farber/Boston Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, specializing in psychosocial support to pediatric oncology patients and families.
Dr. Hanania specializes in promoting coping with medical illnesses with a particular focus on psychosocial oncology. Her clinical approach utilizes evidence-based interventions to partner with patients and their families through medical experiences and to promote adaptation and well-being. Dr. Hanania also participates in teaching, training, and research in this area. Her research focuses on psychosocial correlates of medical illnesses, adaptation in life-threatening illness and end of life care, reciprocal influences between child’s illness and familial context, pediatric cancer survivorship, and psychosocial outcomes in cancer genetics.
