Professional History
Following his training in adult cardiothoracic surgery and pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, Dr. Feins joined the staff at Boston Children’s Hospital. He is actively involved in all aspects of congenital heart surgery, with clinical focuses in neonatal heart surgery, heart valve repair surgery, and complex biventricular repair operations. His research efforts are focused on pediatric cardiac surgical device development. Currently there are limited ways to accommodate a child’s normal growth when performing congenital heart surgery, particularly heart valve repair operations. Dr. Feins has invented growth-accommodating device technology for use in pediatric heart valve repair – aiming to enhance heart valve repair strategies while also allowing a child’s heart valves to grow.
Approach to Care
As a congenital heart surgeon I take a very individualized and personalized approach to each patient I care for, as I truly believe in the importance of the surgeon-patient relationship. I strive to ensure that patients and their families understand and are comfortable with the care we provide, and are engaged in the treatment plan. For me, trust, communication, and the team approach are central.
