Center for Gender Health | Overview
The Center for Gender Health delivers coordinated care for transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) individuals and their families. We emphasize exploration and expression of gender to promote positive self-image, and we offer mental health and medical services for qualifying patients. We provide individualized support and resources every step of the way.
Our approach to care
Because we take a team approach to caring for TGD patients, we partner with experts from many different specialties — including psychology, social work, endocrinology, gynecology and reproductive health, and adolescent medicine — both at Boston Children’s and the community. Together, we provide ongoing, personalized care that follows best practices, with an emphasis on mental health.
Patients considering medical interventions must meet several times with members of our mental health team to not only establish a diagnosis, but also to establish their readiness and mental health stability. We take an integrated approach to care, working with community therapists and outpatient treatment teams.
Our research
The Center for Gender Health is actively engaged in research to ultimately benefit the patients and families with whom we work. Our research spans medical, psychological, physiologic, developmental, and social issues.
