Platelets play an essential role in stopping bleeding and helping the body heal. For kids with low platelet counts due to conditions such as cancer, chronic illnesses, or traumatic injuries, donations can be lifesaving. Unlike whole blood, platelets can be donated up to 24 times per year but last only seven days.
