Childhood infections are one of the most common reasons children see a healthcare provider. While the majority of infections are not serious and children recovery quickly, sometimes children do need to see a specialist for recurrent, prolonged or severe infections. Our pediatric infectious disease specialists are experienced in diagnosing and treating children with infections of all kinds. We commonly see children on an outpatient basis for recurrent or prolonged infections, persistent fevers, Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases, enlarged lymph nodes, pneumonia and a wide range of other infections.
Our physicians also have expertise diagnosing and treating infections in returning travelers, infants with congenital infections (infected before birth) and in children with weakened immune systems. Children who have severe infections, such as meningitis, encephalitis, bone infections or endocarditis are usually seen in the hospital.
