Dr. Kanarek grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, and graduated high school there. He received his undergraduate degree in Biology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Kanarek always wanted to get to Boston to visit his grandmother in Malden every summer, so he was delighted to attend Tufts Medical School, where he got his pediatric training at Boston Floating Hospital of the New England Medical Center.

Dr. Kanarek joined Dr. Lipman in practice in West Peabody in 1974 and has enjoyed teaching Tufts residents and medical students while serving as his Chief of Staff at North Shore Children’s Hospital in Salem and Chief of Pediatrics at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. “I have been blessed to work with a fantastic group of pediatric clinicians. I count as my greatest organizational achievement, the development of a robust behavioral health department here at PHCA. I count as my greatest personal achievement the privilege of sharing the lives of so many children and families over the decades."

After 45 years in practice, I have seen some pretty profound changes in pediatric medicine. The greatest in the past ten years has been a shift in interest to children’s behavioral, psychological, developmental, and academic growth. It has been a real joy to have the opportunity to continue to learn a great deal more about children after all these years.
