Professional History

Dr. Freed trained at New York University Medical Center and was an intern and resident at Bellevue Medical Center. He went to Boston Children’s Hospital to train with the late Alexander Nadas, M.D., in 1970 and spent his career in Boston. Dr. Freed has held leadership positions in what now is the AAP Section on Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery. Other involvements include the Council on Cardiovascular Disease in the Young, American Heart Association; and the Pediatric Section (now Adult Congenital and Pediatric Cardiology Section), the Board of Trustees and chair of the ethics committee at the American College of Cardiology. In October 2015 he was awarded the Founders Award from the section of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery, American Academy of Pediatrics, recognizing outstanding contribution in the field of pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery.
