Philosophy of Care

I developed a strong interest in a career in medicine at an early age, drawn to cardiology in particular because of my own experience as a congenital heart patient. As a physician in the cardiac intensive care unit, I serve patients and families at some of the most critical moments in their journeys with congenital heart disease, and I hope that my own experience allows me to act with greater compassion and empathy.

Dr. Allan joined the staff in the Cardiac Intensive Care (CICU) unit in 2005 and is currently the Medical Director of the CICU. She has dedicated her career to caring for patients with critical cardiac illness across the age spectrum. In addition to her clinical and administrative roles in the CICU, she serves as the Associate Program Director for the Boston Children's Hospital Simulator Program, where she focuses her efforts on enhancing patient safety through the use of medical simulation for training and quality improvement. She has a particular interest in using simulation as a powerful tool to understand and mitigate hazards in the environment of care.
