Keila Veiga | Professional History

Dr. Veiga is board-certified in Pediatric Rheumatology. She is originally from Providence, Rhode Island. She earned her MD from the University of Connecticut (2013) and a Bachelor of Science degree from Brown University (2008). She completed her residency in Pediatrics at Mount Sinai (2017) where she became chief resident the following year. She completed her fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery (2020). During her fellowship, she received an Advanced Certificate in Clinical Translational Investigation through the Weill Cornell Medicine Clinical and Translational Science Center.

During her time at the Hospital for Special Surgery, she joined the lab of Dr. Theresa Lu working on a translational project to better understand why patients with lupus and other autoimmune diseases become photosensitive. She is also a member and workgroup leader for the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance.

Dr. Veiga’s areas of clinical focus include juvenile idiopathic arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, juvenile dermatomyositis and autoinflammatory syndromes. Dr. Veiga also has an interest in social determinants of health and improving access to care for all.
