The Boston Children’s Hospital Pediatric Occupational Therapy Residency Program is housed in the Department of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Services. The program has applied for credentialing from the American Occupational Therapy Association and was granted approval for starting the program in August 2016.

Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) is one of the largest pediatric hospitals in the United States and a major teaching facility of Harvard Medical School. BCH is a comprehensive medical center for pediatric and adolescent health care, dedicated to excellence in patient care, teaching and research. As a resident you will have access to all department resources which include highly qualified and experienced clinicians and faculty, extensive didactic experiences, teaching and research opportunities.


The mission of the Boston Children’s Hospital Pediatric Occupational Therapy Residency Program is to recruit motivated and well qualified licensed occupational therapy residents who are interested in expanding their knowledge, advancing evidenced based practice while participating in intensive clinical and didactic training in order to become clinicians, researchers and educators in the specialized field of pediatric occupational therapy.

Highlights of the program include:

  • Shared didactic experiences with Harvard Medical School Residency Programs and LEND.
  • Some Faculty are Board Certified in several specialty areas of practice.
  • Acute inpatient care, outpatient care, community based early intervention, participation in multidisciplinary care clinics.
  • Augmentative Communication, Adaptive Technology and Adaptive Equipment and Seating evaluations and programming
  • Acute and sub-acute Psychological OT care
  • Chronic Pediatric Pain Module at the Mayo Family Pediatric Pain Rehabilitation Pain Center at our Waltham campus
  • Participation in research
  • Teaching selected components of Pediatric Neurological physical therapy of course at Simmons College Physical Therapy Program

Admission Criteria

  • Graduate of accredited occupational therapy program
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an occupational therapist with the equivalent of at least 6 months in pediatrics or an extended clinical pediatric internship 6 months.
  • Meets all the requirements for employment at Boston Children’s Hospital
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Massachusetts
  • Current CPR certification

  • Submit completed application by deadline
  • Submit resume or CV
  • On-site interview
  • Letter of intent to include goals for participation in program (limit to 2 pages)
  • Career goals in pediatric occupational therapy 
  • Summary of prior clinical and educational experience related to pediatrics with any areas of expertise
  • Two (2) References

Application Deadline for Prospective Residents:  April 15, 2017
All applicants will be notified of status in the first week of June.
