Pap Test Evaluation Clinic | Overview
The Department of Gynecology at Boston Children's Hospital offers a Pap Test Evaluation Clinic to evaluate and manage abnormal Pap tests.
Patients are referred to our clinic from within Boston Children's and from other health care sites in the greater Boston area.
What is a Pap test?
A Pap test (sometimes called a Pap smear) is a way to examine cells collected from the cervix, or the "mouth" of the womb (located at the top of the vagina), for the presence of:
- infection
- inflammation
- abnormal cells
- cancer
Family resources
Over the past few years, there have been a variety of changes about when adolescents should be screened for cervical cancer from:
- The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG)
- The American Cancer Society (ACS)
- The American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP)
We understand that these changes can be confusing so we work with patients and their families to help them understand the current recommendations.
