Tanzania is a large country with 39 million population. Several Children’s Hospital staff have longstanding relationships in Tanzania working on improving childhood nutrition. The Global Pediatrics Program is now beginning a collaboration for pediatric residents to participate in clinical care delivery.
Since 2010, the Global Pediatrics Program has established a medical education and clinical capacity building component in Tanzania. In conjunction with the Boston Combined Residency Program and Muhimbili University Pediatrics, residents work with the on-site coordinator, Dr. Kisenge, participating on ward teams, in the acute care unit, in the neonatal ward, or in an outpatient clinic. MNH is a national referral base, which means residents care for children with unusual or late presentations of less common diagnoses such as cancer or congenital heart disease.
