Current initiatives

Here are a few ways we are working to promote these values in our programs:

  1. Departmental Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (EDI) Council with resident and program leadership representation
  2. Multiple department members serve on hospital-wide EDI Council and other efforts
  3. Resident-led Social Justice Journal Club
  4. All program leadership and recruitment committee members have taken anti-bias training and are committed to promoting diversity in recruiting.
  5. All department members are completing Bystander to Upstander training to respond to bias and microaggressions.
  6. We train IMGs (and hire them as faculty)! Current/recent trainees are from Canada, Ecuador, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Italy, Pakistan, Puerto Rico (we know that’s not a different country!), Switzerland, and Turkey.

EDI in the application process

We seek applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply to our program. We are deeply committed to a fair, equitable, and respectful recruitment process. All interviewers have been asked to complete implicit bias training including recognition of the ways that bias can inadvertently manifest during a virtual interview process. All interviewers and other faculty and resident participants in the recruitment process have been reminded of the questions and statements that are considered violations of the Match and/or that could otherwise be construed as unprofessional or discriminatory, including those related to protected identity characteristics (age, disability, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, and pregnancy or family/relationship status, among others) or your personal Match process information and decisions.
