At Boston Children's Hospital, the staff of the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition believes every child is entitled to family-centered care delivered by a collaborative team of experts.

Our team includes registered nurses, nurse practitioners, gastroenterology physicians, anesthesiologists, social workers, clinical dietitians and others, who develop individual care plans to meet patients' medical and emotional needs, as well as their family's needs for information, support and assistance.

We understand that this is all very new for some parents, and you may have questions such as, "What do I do first?"

Make an appointment

If your child has been diagnosed or referred to us with a GI condition, the first step is to schedule an appointment with us (if you don't already have one) by calling 617-355-6058. You can make an appointment, refill a prescription, leave a message for a nurse if you have a question, or speak with someone if you have an immediate concern.

How often can I see my child in the hospital?

Families are always welcome on the patient care unit and are encouraged to come anytime to comfort and soothe their children. Family members may call any time to speak with their child's nurse if away from the hospital.

Understand the billing process

You will receive a bill from your GI physician the day of your child's appointment. If your child sees a clinical dietitian and a physician on the same day, you will receive two separate bills, one from GI and one from Nutrition, on the same day.

If your child is seen by a physician from a department other than GI/Nutrition, on the same date, you will receive a bill for those services as well.
