Current Environment:

Children with Special Needs offer unique opportunities and challenges that we at Westwood-Mansfield Pediatrics enthusiastically embrace.

With support from our Medical Home team (including our educational consultant and care coordinator), our providers welcome the opportunity to help care for children with all possible medical and developmental conditions. We routinely care for children with a diverse group of medical diagnoses including (but not limited to) autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, metabolic disease, genetic conditions, cystic fibrosis, anxiety and depression. We at Westwood-Mansfield Pediatrics take this responsibility to heart.

In an effort to provide the best possible care, we have created the SKIP (Special Kids in Our Practice) Program. The SKIP Program is designed with children with complex medical and developmental issues in mind.

Children enrolled in the SKIP Program will automatically have extra time allotted for all appointments, allowing for all of their issues to be thoroughly addressed. In addition, children in the SKIP program are “flagged” within our system in order that they receive preferential attention (including earlier access to flu vaccines and prioritized scheduling). We may occasionally contact parents with any new information or resources regarding their child.

In an effort to increase networking among families and provide education, we periodically sponsor educational seminars in the community on issues pertaining to special health care needs. Previous programs have included Complex Congenital Heart Disease, Autism Resources in the Community, Special Education Law, and Anxiety, to name a few.

Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions regarding the SKIP Program.
