Down Syndrome Program Overview

The Down Syndrome Program in the Developmental Medicine Center at Boston Children's Hospital offers multidisciplinary clinical evaluations for people with Down syndrome from birth until the age of 22. With each appointment, we are also able to make referrals and connections with any of the other specialty clinics at Boston Children's.  The Down Syndrome Program is more than a clinic, however. We strive to provide resources, advocacy, and supports to all families, depending on their individual needs.  You can read more in our Program Brochure!

We are excited to announce that Dr. David Stein, our Co-Director, has come out with a new book called "Supporting Positive Behavior in Children and Teens with Down Syndrome".  It is available now for purchase at Woodbine House Publishing.

"Dr. Stein's book is a gift for anyone caring for young people with Down syndrome!  He presents effective methods that capitalize on the strengths of people with Down syndrome in a conversational style that is readable and engaging.  His approach decreases the stress of behavior management by offering positive strategies that, ultimately, help to strengthen relationships and support skill-building for future success.  Highly recommended!"   - Maria A. Stanley, MD, FAAP, Medical Director, Waisman Center, University of Wisconsin-Madison

Our Vision: All individuals with Down syndrome are physically and emotionally healthy, engaged at their highest capacity in school or vocation, have meaningful family and social relationships, and are valued members of their communities.

Our Mission: To partner with families, interdisciplinary providers, and researchers to evaluate, treat, and investigate medical, cognitive, neurodevelopmental, educational, mental health, behavioral and social needs of individuals with Down syndrome from the time of diagnosis until transition to adult care.

"Families often say their most exciting child is their child with Down syndrome."  quote from Dr. Allen C. Crocker, past Director of DS Program at Boston Children's Hospital.

We are grateful to have been ranked #1 on U.S. News & World Report's list of the best children's hospitals in the nation for the third year in a row, an honor we could not have achieved without the patients and families who inspire us to do our very best for them. Thanks to you, Boston Children's is a place where we can write the greatest children's stories ever told.”
