William E. Harmon, MD, director of Nephrology, received the National Kidney Foundation's 2011 Medical Honoree award for his work in pediatric nephrology, including his research into innovative approaches to immunosuppression for children with organ transplants.
S. Jean Emans, MD, chief of the Division of Adolescent Medicine and director of the Office of Faculty Development, was honored with the 2011 Outstanding Achievement in Adolescent Medicine Award from the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine.
Mark D. Fleming, MD, DPhil, pathologist-in-chief, was named the S. Burt Wolbach Professor of Pathology at Harvard
Medical School.
The Translational Research Program announced its 2011 Translational Investigator Service awardees. Richard Malley, MD, from the Division of Infectious Diseases, the 2011 mid-career winner, is working on development of novel vaccines for pneumococcus. Alex Rotenberg, MD, PhD, from the Department of Neurology, the 2011 Junior Investigator recipient, is studying non-pharmacologic methods for treating epilepsy.
Harvard Medical School has announced its 2010-2011 Excellence in Mentoring Awards, and three Children's faculty members are among those honored: Richard J. Grand, MD, director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program, will receive the William Silen Lifetime Achievement in Mentoring Award. Catherine M. Gordon, MD, MSc, director of the Bone Health Program, and Brian Snyder, MD, PhD, Orthopedic Surgery, are both recipients of the A. Clifford Barger Excellence in Mentoring Award.
Four Children's employees were recently named among the 100 most influential members of the Latino community by El Planeta newspaper: Fernando Camargo, PhD, principal investigator in Children's Stem Cell Program, Pedro del Nido, MD, chief of Cardiac Surgery, Alcy R. Torres, MD, assistant in Neurology, and Andres Trevino, development specialist - Latino Markets, Children's Hospital Trust.
